AMES, I.A.(WNAX)- Severe to extreme drought conditions are expected to continue across much of the region into winter.

Dennis Todey, head of the Midwest Climate Hub in Ames Iowa, says there are a few benefits to the dry weather.

Todey says the soil continues to dry out deeper.

Todey says there are a number of hazards from the dry conditions.

Many locations show six to eight inch precipitation deficits for the year.
