RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- A drowning at Rapid City’s Memorial Park pond put a dark cloud over Fourth of July festivities this year.
Rapid City Police Department spokesperson Brendyn Medina described it as a “major critical incident,” and provided a timeline starting just before 7:00 p.m.
27-year old Walter Mousseau is currently in the Pennington County Jail after being arrested for first degree murder. The victim has been identified 43-year old Sheldon Glenn of Rapid City.
Medina said it’s the first drowning homicide in recent memory for the city, and cited numerous eyewitnesses on scene as an asset speeding the case up.
Medina says the case is now being turned over to the states attorney’s office.
With the Fourth of July already among the busiest days and nights of the year, it was just one piece of a hectic holiday.
The RCPD, according to Medina, bumped patrol staffing by 166 percent for the Fourth.
