Drug overdoses rising in the Rapid City area

RAPID CITY, S.D.(KOTA)- Drug overdoses have become a serious enough issue in the Rapid City area the Rapid City Police Department has officially moved to establish a Narcan program.

Narcan nasal spray is a widely misunderstood chemical used to combat potentially fatal overdose situations. RCPD Captain John Olsen explained the specifics of Narcan’s applications.

Olsen said opioid and Fentanyl overdoses are not to be taken lightly.

Brendyn Medina, RCPD spokesperson, said Narcan has become a heavily utilized tool in Rapid City.

Major pharmacy chains like CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid stock Narcan, and it can be purchased without a prescription at these locations.
