PIERRE, S.D. (KWAT) — The South Dakota Department of Social Services has launched a youth suicide prevention campaign this month.
It’s dubbed, “Be The 1 South Dakota.”
Cabinet Secretary Laurie Gill talked about the campaign.
Gill says this is part of an ongoing effort to reach out to kids.
Statistics show in 2018, suicide was the second-leading cause of death for South Dakotans between the ages of 10 and 39.
She says a website has been created where “action steps” have been posted for people who are contemplating suicide, or know someone who might be.
The website can be found at www.BeThe1SD.com.
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
