OMAHA, Neb. (WNAX) – The economy in the nine state Mid America Region is stalling badly in a reaction to the coronavirus pandemic. The latest survey from Creighton University put the overall index at 35.1, the lowest since the recession of 2009. A reading under 50 indicates a shrinking economy.
Professor Ernie Goss, who conducts the survey, says the regional economy needs more than government checks.
Goss says businesses need the lockdowns to end.
Goss says there are risks in reopening businesses.
Goss says unemployment will also rise sharply in the next few months.
