Eight new COVID-related deaths in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The state reported its highest single day COVID-19 related death total since the pandemic began with eight new deaths, according to figures released by the South Dakota Department of Health today. The deaths, which included five people in the 80 or older category, one in the 70-79 range, and two in the 40-49 age group, brings the state total to 192.

The state also saw a slight uptick in active cases with 297 new cases and 233 recoveries, moving the amount of active infections to 2,442 (there were 2,434 one week ago). There are currently 139 people hospitalized in association with the virus.

So far, the state has had 17,291 confirmed cases and 14,657 recoveries.

Locally, Brown County had 13 new cases and 16 new recoveries lowering the amount of active infections to 124. The county has had three COVID-related deaths. So far the county has had 959 confirmed cases and 832 recoveries.

Statewide, Minnehaha County has had 5,992 cases, followed by Pennington County with 1,862, and Lincoln County with 1,142. Other counties totals include Beadle with 674, Codington with 612, Brookings with 609, and Clay with 522.
