Electric Cooperatives holding steady despite rising energy costs

MARION, S.D.(WNAX)- Despite rising energy costs, many electric cooperatives are holding the line on rate increases to their customers.

Brad Schardin, Manager of Southeastern Electric, based in Marion, says their power supplier, Basin Electric, has been able to quickly diversify the power production mix.

Schardin says they haven’t had a substantial rate increase for several years.

Schardin says they had a good year to add new services.

Southeastern Electric serves over nineteen thousand meters in an area from Parkston, to north of Yankton to near Sioux Falls.
