Electric customers now have option to use renewable energy

MARION, S.D. (WNAX) – Some electric customers now have the option to power their home or business with 100 percent renewable energy.

Brad Schardin, Manager of Southeastern Electric based in Marion, says they offer “Renewable Energy Credits” that their members can buy.

The credits cost one dollar per megawatt, so if a customer uses 1,200 kilowatts a month, it would add $1.20 to their bill.

Schardin says the energy credit with efficient appliances is a good combination.

Schardin says the program can have multiple benefits for some customers.

The renewable energy is produced at wind farms in North and South Dakota.
