ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – Northern State University is excited to announce that Emily Schumacher, Miss Minnesota 2024 and a 2018 Honors Graduate, will serve as the Grand Marshal for the 108th annual Gypsy Day Parade. The parade, a cherished tradition that unites the Northern community and its supporters, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, beginning at 9 a.m. in downtown Aberdeen.
Schumacher, who recently earned the title of Miss Minnesota after a standout performance at the state competition, has continually represented Northern State University with pride and distinction. Her achievements include securing a $10,000 scholarship and preparing to represent Minnesota in the 2025 Miss America pageant. Beyond her pageant success, Schumacher is a passionate advocate for heart health through her community service initiative, “The Heart of the Matter.”
“I am thrilled to be returning to my alma mater to serve as Grand Marshal for the 2024 Gypsy Day Parade. Northern State University played such an important role in my education and future career, and my attendance was made possible with the help of the Miss Minnesota Scholarship Organization. I’m so excited to see both worlds come together in October,” said Schumacher.
This year’s Gypsy Day Parade will feature floats decorated according to the theme “Wolves in Candy Land,” with participants competing for several awards. A panel of judges comprised of Northern and community leaders will present awards in various categories, including the Best Float competition. The top three floats will receive cash prizes and tickets to the President’s Suite for a football game. Additionally, a new category for NSU Student Clubs offers a $300 prize.
Northern’s homecoming week, which takes place from Monday, Sept. 30, to Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, will culminate with the Gypsy Day Parade and football game. The week’s festivities will also include Wolves athletic events, the NSU Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Banquet, and the coronation of a king and queen.
