PIERRE, S.D.(DakotaRadioGroup)-1,665 people flew out of the Pierre Regional Airport last month. Of the total, 505 were on Denver Air Connection flights and 1,160 were on SkyWest flights.
City commissioner Jamie Huizenga says so far this year, over 9000 people have flown out of Pierre.
At the 10-thousand enplanements mark, the Pierre Regional Airport becomes eligible for $1-million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration.
He says August was the second month of having two commercial air service companies operating flights from Pierre to Denver.
Huizenga says rumors about Pierre getting a direct flight to Minneapolis aren’t true.
If Pierre were to get flights to Minneapolis, Huizenga says it wouldn’t mean more flights leaving town.
Huizenga says along with the baggage issue, connecting flights out of Minneapolis tend to be more expensive than the connections from Denver International.
You can see flight schedules for both Denver Air Connection and SkyWest, flying as United Express by going to either company’s website or to the Pierre Regional Airport website.
