PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- An attempt to raise entrance fees to the South Dakota State Fair was headed off by a legislative committee.
State Fair officials came to the Rules Review committee with a proposal to raise the gate fee from six to ten dollars. Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton told them they didn’t follow the right procedures.
Hunhoff says the fair and Department of Ag and Natural Resources should have put the fee proposal in their budget.
Hunhoff, Co-Chair of the Joint Committee on Appropriations said that was where the plan should have gone.
The committee voted four to one to revert the rule to an earlier step, in effect stopping it for the time being.
