Equipment failure causes power outage in Pierre

PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – An equipment failure is the cause of a Wednesday morning power outage in Pierre.  City Utilities Director Brad Palmer says the outage started around 6:30 a.m. near the State Health Lab.

Palmer says switchgear devices are like big circuit breakers for the city’s electric distribution system.

Around 400 customers were impacted by the failure.

Palmer says the cause of the failure is being investigated. The outage extended from north Euclid near the Evans substation down to Island View Drive near the Missouri River east toward Avera St. Mary’s Hospital and west past the Hughes County Courthouse.
