ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Monday, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission denied Summit Carbon Solution’s request for CO2 pipeline throughout eastern South Dakota.  Executive Director Joe Heinrich offered his reaction to the ruling.

Heinrich was surprised at how quickly the PUC made a ruling on this permit request.

Heinrich explains his concerns about how the PUC allowed the counties to set their setbacks for these pipelines.

Iowa allows counties to put their input in but ultimately decides for those counties.  This is something that could be addressed by the SD Legislature when they return to session.  Heinrich still believes that decision should be made the legislators themselves.

Heinrich still believes the carbon is indeed a commodity.

Summit Carbon Solutions have plans to reapply to the PUC at a later date.
