Farmers holding their own despite high fuel and fertilizer prices

OMAHA, N.E. (KELO)-
Farmers are holding their own, even as the farm economy stays in negative territory.

Creighton University’s Monthly Rural Main Street Index shows the rural economy slipping due to high fuel and fertilizer prices.

Economist, Dr. Ernie Goss says recently announced help from Washington is welcome news.

Goss says so far, that hasn’t translated into farm loan defaults.

Bankers surveyed in the Index say federal assistance may be needed to head off farm loan defaults in the next year.
