FEMA finds damages in excess of $40 million

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – An assessment by the Federal Emergency Management Agency found about $43 million in damages to public infrastructure in South Dakota with about $3 million in individual damages.

That may be far short of total damages from the March storms and flooding.

Governor Kristi Noem says they worked with the counties on those estimates.

Noem says the White House is processing the state’s request for federal help.

Federal dollars will require a state and local match. Noem says they will work with counties on that.

Noem says FEMA officials will be back in the state helping to better refine the damages and assistance needed.
