ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – On December 2, 2022 at 23:47 hours, Aberdeen Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire involving a multi-family residential apartment building at 1020 North 2nd Street. On arrival crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from this residence. The fire was quickly located by firefighters and contained to the building of origin, but there is significant fire, smoke and water damage throughout the residence. Several occupants had to be rescued and four were transported to local hospitals for smoke inhalation. Fire crews were on scene for about 12 hours and the Salvation Army / Red Cross are assisting the displaced residents. Aberdeen Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to have operating smoke detectors and to have and practice an escape plan. The fire is currently under investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
