PIERRE, S.D. (KCCR) – The way the National Weather Service issues Red Flag Warnings for extreme fire danger is changing. Fire Weather Program Manager for the National Weather Service office in Aberdeen Travis Tarver says to awkwardly shaped zones will become county-based.
The Aberdeen and Sioux Falls offices are making the change within their respective County Warning Areas. Tarver says zones work better for some parts of the country.
Traver hopes the change will reduce confusion.
The change will take place beginning Oct. 29.
