Firework Safety Tips

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- 4th of July is coming up on Friday.  The Aberdeen Fire Rescue is providing tips for firework safety.

Reminder Aberdeen City Ordinance prohibit the use of fireworks within city limits.  The only exceptions are sparklers, snakes, and other fireworks that do not have audible report, projectile, or launching components.  While sparklers are legal within the city, there are safety concerns that needs to be followed.  Temperatures at the end of a sparkler can be as much as 1200 degrees Fahrenheit and can cause third degree burns.

Aberdeen Fire Rescue offer these safety tips if you are using fireworks:

Never allow children to play or ignite fireworks.

Use only fireworks provided by suitable retailers.  Homemade fireworks are dangerous and illegal.

Read all warning and instructions of fireworks.

Check the weather forecast for that night.

Make sure people are out of range of fireworks before igniting them.

Light fireworks on flat surfaces and away from buildings, dry leaves, etc.

Never try to relit firework if it’s defected.

Be sure fireworks are extinguished completely.

If a burn occur, cool that with cool water and seek medical attention.
