YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – While many Fourth of July fireworks celebrations are being postponed or cancelled this summer, the State of South Dakota is going ahead with a big show planned for Mt. Rushmore on July 3.
In Yankton, where the fireworks have been postponed, City Manager Amy Leon says they are relying on advice from local medical experts.
Leon says state officials have a different view.
Leon says there is a concern for public safety, too.
The state will spend about $350,000 dollars on the fireworks display. Seventy-five hundred tickets will be distributed through a lottery system for the show. President Trump has said he plans to be at the event.
