First amendment already part of USD Law School curriculum

VERMILLION, S.D. (WNAX) – South Dakota’s university campuses have become the focus of freedom of speech and first amendment rights.

The legislature last year passed a law setting out how the universities have to monitor free speech and make a report each year on those efforts.

Neil Fulton is Dean of the Law School at USD and says the first amendment is a core part of their curriculum.

Fulton says they try to teach their students how to effectively debate.

Fulton says the law school can help set an example for the exercise of free speech.

Fulton says they let the administration deal with the politics of the free speech policy.
