FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Delayed by two blizzards, a Fort Pierre medical cannabis dispensary had it’s official ribbon cutting Wednesday. Fort Pierre set the number of allowed cannabis dispensaries at three and Grassroots Cannabis owner Vicki Warne isn’t sure if three in a town of 23-hundred is over-saturation.
Warne says the reception for Grassroots Cannabis has been wonderful.
Warne says while she hoped recreational marijuana use would have passed in the November election it’s probably good it failed for now.
Warne says setting up Grassroots Cannabis cost three times more than estimated when the process started nearly two years ago and that it’s been a six-figure investment to begin operation. Staff for the moment consists of family, but Warne hopes to add staffing in the future.
