First shipments of vaccine should be arriving this week

YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – The first shipments of COVID-19 vaccines should be arriving at health care facilities this week. Front line medical workers are among the first in line for the shots.

Doug Ekeren, President of Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, says it will take some time to get the vaccine.

Ekeren says the vaccines are all double dose types.

Ekeren says they anticipate it will take some time to get adequate supplies to vaccinate their employees.

The state Health Department said last week they expect about 8,000 doses in the first shipment.
