PIERRE, S.D. (Hub City Radio)–
On Wednesday, Governor Larry Rhoden ordered that flags be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sunset on Monday, October 19, 2026, in honor of Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Ann Frank, who tragically lost her life in the line of duty. Katherine worked at the South Dakota State Penitentiary from September 2022 until being hired with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office in June of 2024.
Governor Rhoden has also ordered flags be flown at half-staff statewide the day prior to the funeral services for Deputy Frank, Sunday, October 18, 2026, to honor her along with all the men and women who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
“Sandy and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Ann Frank, who was shot in the line of duty,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “Please join us in praying for her family and friends — and for all those who put their lives in harm’s way to keep our state strong, safe, and free.”
A funeral service for Deputy Frank will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 1:00 pm CT at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
