Flu season still happening in South Dakota

WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)–The state epidemiologist for South Dakota says flu activity around the state is still in the “moderate” category.

Dr. Joshua Clayton says the most recent weekly report shows a lot of cases still being reported.

Clayton says COVID-19 is still around too, although to a much lesser extent that seasonal influenza.

Dr. Clayton says the vaccine that’s been available to ward off the flu has been pretty effective.

For the season, Clayton says there have been just under 15,000 confirmed influenza cases in the state, and at last count, 32 flu-related deaths.
