Focus of third Legislative Coffee(Cracker Barrel) on pipelines

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The third and final cracker barrel session was held Saturday at the Kessler’s Champions Room inside the Barnett Center on the campus of NSU.  The main focus of questioning from the audience dealt with pipeline related topics.

Representative J.D. Wangsness of Miller address his decision not to calendar HB1219 which dealt with no eminent domain for the CO2 pipeline.

The bulk of the questions dealt with SB201 which allow the state to override county ordinances in regards to setbacks.

Comments from each legislator that was there beginning with Senator Bryan Breitling of Miller.

Senator Al Novstrup addressed local control and explains his opposition to SB201.

Novstrup also address the issue of emergency clause that was originally drafted in the bill.

Representative Carl Perry of Aberdeen who serves on the House Commerce & Energy Committee that will hear the bill Monday talks about his opposition.

Representative Brandei Schaefbauer will also be a no vote on SB201 and explains why.

Representative Wangsness talks about a potential amendment that sway him to support the bill.

That led to an interesting exchange between the President of the South Dakota Farmers Union Doug Sombke and Representative Wangsness.  Sombke talks about how his group was not a part of the amendment process.

Wangsness responded to that.

Sombke spoke out afterward questioning the integrity of Representative Wangsness afterward.  He questioned Wangsness about whether he listens to his voters in the region or not.  Wangsness thought Sombke was out of line.

SB201 will be heard in the House Commerce & Energy Committee at 10am Monday.
