PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A special visitor was at the Capitol last week to observe the legislative process. Former Governor Dennis Daugaard and former First Lady Linda Daugaard spent a taking in committee hearings and floor sessions. District 24 Representative Mike Weisgram says Daugaard stuck his head into his Commerce and Energy Committee meeting.
District 24 Representative Will Mortenson served with Dauggard during his time as governor and says Daugaard was in the House Chamber when the body debated House Bill 1047 which would revise teacher pay accountability Daugaard pushed for teacher pay accountability with the Blue Ribbon Task Force in 2015.
Mortenson says Daugaard has been an important part of his political career.
District 24 Senator Jim Mehlhaff says Daugaard wasn’t the only former governor to grace the halls of the Capitol last week. Senator and former two-term governor Mike Rounds visited the Senate and members of the legislature as well. Daugaard and Rounds are the only living former South Dakota governors.
