RAPID CITY, S.D.(WNAX)- This June will mark the 50th anniversary of the deadly Rapid City flood. Two hundred thirty-eight people died and hundreds of millions of dollars in damage was done from the flash flooding along Rapid Creek.
Don Barnett was Mayor at the time and has written a book, “Thorns & Roses” about the flood and his experiences. He says there were many lessons from that disaster.
Barnett says they realized that major changes were needed.
Barnett made a stop in Yankton to talk about his book and the flood.
Barnett served two terms as Mayor of Rapid City and ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate in 1978 against Senator Larry Pressler.
