Former South Dakota Gov. Frank Farrar honored at Capitol

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A memorial ceremony for former South Dakota Governor Frank Farrar was held Tuesday in the Rotunda of the South Dakota State Capitol.  Farrar lied in state overnight in the Rotunda with a public viewing throughout the day.  Current governor Kristi Noem says brought a number of attributes to his role as governor.

Noem predecessor, former Governor Dennis Daugaard recalled Farrar’s humbleness for all his accomplishments.

Farrar died sudden as a result of injuries suffered in a fall.  Daugaard says it’s important to show your love for those around you all the time.

Farrar was carried from the Capitol by the arms of a South Dakota Highway Patrol and South Dakota National Guard honor guard to a 21 volley salute as the flag over his casket was folded and presented to family.  A funeral is planned at the Britton-Hecla High School 11am Saturday with burial in the Britton Cemetery.
