Fort Pierre City Council address raises for city employees

FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Fort Pierre City Council has voted to a reduced pay raise for employees while increasing a raise for themselves.  The Council’s Personnel Committee discussed a dollar-50 raise across the board or the which is the equivalent of a three-and-a-half percent raise.  However Councilman Rick Cronin wanted to back up.

Cronin then suggested a 75-cent raise for employees while increasing the Council and Mayor’s pay to 600-dollars a year which did not find favor with Councilman Todd Bernhard.

After multiple amendments Cronin’s final motion was for 75-cents for employees and 300-dollars per year for the Council and Mayor, which Mayor Gloria Hanson called insulting to city employees.

The Council voted four-to-two to approve the Rick Cronin proposal.  Hanson apologized to city staffers in attendance as two exited the meeting following the vote.  Approving the 75-cent employee raise and 300-dollar Council raise were Rick Cronin, Larry Cronin,  Greg Kenzy and Scott Deal.  Voting against the lower raise and Council increase were Bernhard and Council member Callie Iverson.
