FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The Fort Pierre City Council has approved a resolution for an application for additional financial assistance for a water tank storage project. The simple request to apply for fund that would only be used if needed and puts the city under no obligation for paying back what is not needed brought 25 minutes of conversation during the Council’s Monday night meeting. Paul Mehlhaff with the Central South Dakota Enhancement District says the current project is looking at a one-point-nine million dollar shortfall.
That contingency would bring the application to two-point-four million dollars. The conversation quickly turned to cost reduction on the project to as Council member Rick Cronin mentioned moving the proposed tank.
Council member Todd Bernhard says starting over could risk the city losing funds already allocated for the project.
Meanwhile the City of Fort Pierre is still expected two planned days of water restrictions on June 23rd and 26th so that work can be done at the Mni Wiconi water treatment plant north of Fort Pierre.
