FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- After time to let cooler heads prevail, the Fort Pierre City Council awarded a bid to A-G-E Corporation for construction of the Tatanka Trail Pedestrian Bridge. The approval didn’t come without some Council members questioning the project. Council member Larry Cronin asked if a walking bridge over a marina behind Drifter’s restaurant was needed.
The City of Fort Pierre and the South Dakota Discovery Center along with I-S-G worked together and received a one-point-nine million dollars Economic Development Administration grant for the entire Tatanka Trail project. Cronin wanted to delay the project.
Discovery Center Executive Director Dr. Rhea Waldman says since the bridge was included in the grant, it needs to go forward or risk losing the grant.
According to the grant a construction start day is July 27th of 2024, only four weeks away and a progress report is due on the status of the grant by July 15th.
