FORT PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- For the last eight months Jim Hoffman, the former Fort Pierre mayor now challenging current mayor Gloria Hanson, has periodically attended meetings raising various concerns about city spending and claims of a lack of transparency of city government; acting as a defacto seventh Alderman at times speaking out of turn. Hoffman confronted the city’s use of Tax Increment Financing when Alderman Todd Bernhard spoke out.
Bernhard also challenged Hoffman on the amount of debt Fort Pierre has. Hoffman says it around 12 million dollars.
At one point the meeting degraded into a flat out campaign debate.
In recent campaign advertising Hoffman misstated information and has issued corrections including a correction regarding access and funding of the Marion’s Garden area of Fort Pierre. Hoffman and Hanson face off seven days from now on April 12th.
