Four killed in separate crashes throughout state

PIERRE, S.D. (Press Releases) – A 16-year-old male died Thursday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash south of New Holland.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family. He was the only person involved.

A 2002 Toyota 4-Runner was eastbound on 275th Street near the intersection with 379th Avenue. The driver lost control of the vehicle on the gravel road, the vehicle went into the south ditch and rolled.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

One person died and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon north of Hurley.

Names of the two people involved in the crash are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe was southbound on South Dakota Highway 19 near the intersection with 280th Street. A 2002 Ford Taurus was eastbound on 280th Street and failed to stop at the intersection. The vehicle entered the intersection and collided with the Hyundai.

The 17-year-old male driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. His seat belt use is under investigation.

Sustaining minor injuries was the 21-year-old female driver of the Hyundai. She was wearing a seat belt and was not transported to the hospital.

 

One person died late Friday night in a motorcycle- vehicle crash that occurred north of Hot Springs.

Names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family.

A 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix was northbound on U.S. Highway 385 when it collided with a southbound 2016 Harley Davidson FLHXS motorcycle which was traveling in the northbound lane. The 37-year-old male driver of the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

The 29-year-old male driver of the Grand Prix suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital. Three juvenile passengers each suffered minor injuries. All four vehicle occupants were wearing seat belts.

 

One person died early Saturday morning in a vehicle-pedestrian crash west of Winner.

Names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 2018 Mazda3 was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 when the vehicle struck a male pedestrian walking on the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges are pending against the 38-year-old male driver of the vehicle. Neither he nor the 42-year-old female passenger were injured. Seat belt use by both occupants is under investigation.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crashes. All information is only preliminary at this point.
