PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- South Dakota Boulevard in Pierre, the road that connects Church Street with Broadway Avenue at the entrance to the South Dakota State Capitol will be closed Saturday for a protest and rally. Kathleen Pittman says the group Stop the Mandate is planning a Freedom Rally within view of the State Capitol dome.
Pittman attended a similar Freedom Rally, also held on a closed South Dakota Boulevard, behind the State Capitol during the November of 2021 to protest Covid-19 vaccine mandates. The road closure request is from 11 AM to six-PM. A 150-dollar fee is connected to the permit for barricade rental from the City of Pierre. Numerous speakers are expected to attending including state Representative Taffy Howard who is running for Congress against Dusty Johnson; Bruce Whalen and Mark Mowry, who are challenging Senator John Thune and state Representative Steve Haugaard, who is challenging Governor Kristi Noem for the republican nomination for governor. An 80-percent chance of rain will greet protesters arriving in Pierre for the event.
