PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- Traffic has been running over the new John C. Waldron Memorial Bridge between Pierre and Fort Pierre for a number of weeks now. Work on de-constructing the old bridge is about to reach a noticeable point. South Dakota Department of Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt told the state Transportation Commission recently the girders of the old bridge will likely start coming down next month.
Bridge demolition is expected to continue well into mid-2025 with Fort Pierre Bridge Plaza construction to start roughly in February with Pierre Bridge Plaza work projected to begin in March.
