At GLE, Safety, Community and partnership are words with serious meaning.. that’s why they launched the Fire Department Grant Program. Rural Firefighter Departments from all over NE South Dakota like, Aberdeen, Bowdle, Bristol, Columbia, Mellette, Miller, Northville, Redfield and Roscoe are several of the many Departments granted funds. Marcy Kohl of GLE has more.
The money could be used for many different things, and each Department has different needs, even if much of the equipment used is similar. Checks from between approximately $3k to $52k were distributed, Aberdeen Rural Fire got $13,900 towards the build of a new Wildland Fire Rescue Truck, while many Departments needed Grain Bin rescue equipment.
In many communities, funding is limited and many departments rely on volunteers. The right equipment can change the outcome of a call. It improves response, increases safety and helps protect both responders and the people they serve.
Kohl closed by saying when a Firefighter tells you what they need to save lives, you listen and act. For more on this story and the full interview with the Chairmen of the Board at GLE got to www.hubcityradio.com
