PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A routine report from one legislative committee to another turned into a full-on debate this week.
The Government Operations and Audit Committee had authorized a sub-committee to investigate the Department of Education after another round of low standardized test scores.
When that request came before the Executive Board, Senator Brock Greenfield of Clark objected.
Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls, who was appointed to head up the GOAC subcommittee, says they believe it is part of their responsibilities.
Education Department Secretary Ben Jones told the panel the Department was just about to release their new strategic plan.
The E-Board then passed a resolution of disapproval on an eight to seven vote.
It is unclear if the investigation into the Education Department will continue.
