GOAC members have questions on mail in and absentee ballots

PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – Members of the Government Operations and Audit Committee had lots of questions during their meeting last week for South Dakota Secretary of State Steve Barnett about the security of mail in and absentee ballots.

Senator Susan Wismer of Britton says voters are getting a lot of misinformation.

Wismer says legislators have to careful in criticizing the election system.

Committee Chair, Representative Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls says there needs to be a better effort in explaining how the system works.

Barnett told the committee that while elections are governed by state laws, each county then is responsible for implementing the rules and regulations.
