ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – On a hot & muggy afternoon from Moccasin Creek Country Club, the Aberdeen Central Girls golf squad secured the ESD title.

The Golden Eagles won the team title by seventeen strokes over second place Mitchell & fifty-four strokes over third place Brandon Valley; Watertown & Yankton rounded out the top five. With the win on Tuesday, it’s the second consecutive ESD title & third in the last five years for the blue & gold.

The top 15 golfers for the day make all-conference & everybody who laced up the golf shoes for the Golden Eagles finished in the top 15. Central was led by Kyley Wirebaugh who finished two strokes off of first place, Maddie Childs of Mitchell, who carded a (-3, 69) for the medalist position. Four of the top five who placed were Golden Eagles; Olivia Braun in third, (+1, 73) Emma Dohrer in fourth with (+5, 77 & Genevieve Golz tied for fifth place (+8, 80). Chloe Vikander & Carli Withers both tied for 10^th place, carding (+12, 84) for the day.

Head Coach Kim Zimmerman reflected on the day, “I’m obviously very proud of the girls and what they accomplished today both individually and as a team,” he said. “This was one of their goals at the start of the season [to repeat as ESD Champs]. It’s never easy to go back to back, along with the fact that (we) were playing at home and the high expectations that go along with that.”

Aberdeen Central will now gear up for the two day state tournament at Cattail Crossing in Watertown next week, June first and second.
