WATERTOWN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – Winning the state AA golf tournament is nice, so Aberdeen Central decided to do it twice (in as many years).

The repeat is complete for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles girl’s golf squad as they defeated the field over the two day tournament in Watertown at Cattail Crossing & they also boasted the medalist in Olivia Braun, as well as three golfers in the top four.

Braun defended her medalist crown from her junior year last year & was able to pick up another state championship victory, after trailing by two strokes after the first day. Braun came out smoking; netting a pair of birdies on the first two par-fives’ of the day & gaining early momentum to put pressure on freshman Ari Jacobs of O’Gorman, who was the leader in the clubhouse after day one.

On the par four fourteenth hole, everything changed. At the time, Braun had a one stroke lead after picking up a birdie on the par four twelfth & Jacobs bogey on hole eleven. Braun was steady, picking up a par & Jacobs would err on fourteen. Jacobs had a double-bogey and that’d put her behind the eight ball with four holes to go & Braun enjoyed a healthy lead that she would not relinquish.

The SDSU commit owned a two stroke lead going into the final hole of the day & she was able to play it safe, while Jacobs went for it all. Jacobs parred & Braun would two-putt for victory.

But it wasn’t just Braun who was stellar for the day, Central also had Emma Dohrer carding a one over par for the day & she placed third, three strokes off of Braun. Dohrer’s teammate Kyley Wirebaugh tied for fourth place, she was five over par for the two day tournament and just five strokes off first. Three of the top four golfers were Golden Eagles.
