Governor Noem ask SD Dept of Education to set social studies standard for the state

PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem asked the Department of Education to restart the process for setting social studies standards for the states K – 12 schools.

The first draft got hung up in differences of opinions over race issues in American history.

Yankton School Superintendent Wayne Kindle says they will wait and see what the state comes up with.

Kindle says they can adopt and adapt the state standards when they come down.

Once the new standards are written, there will be public input meetings with schools possibly seeing the new standards by the fall of next year.
