Governor Noem hosted the first Governor’s Round Dance Thursday

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The sounds of dance and Native American culture filled the south lawn of the South Dakota State Capitol Thursday for the first Governor’s Round Dance.

Department of Tribal Relations Secretary David Flute says the event holds meaning from him as he recalled campaign pledges for unity with Tribal Nations by Governor Kristi Noem.

As Noem began her comments, anti-Noem protesters with megaphones tried to disrupt her message.

Standing Rock Sioux Tribal Chairman Mike Faith met with other Tribal leaders and the Governor before the dance.

Around a half dozen South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers arrived to make sure protesters didn’t interfere with the event.
