PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- As long as South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has been in office, one of her most favor duties has been taking part in the annual Grand Lighting ceremony for the Christmas at the Capitol display. Pending her confirmation as Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security, this year’s ceremony was her last. In her comments each year Noem reflects on her personal favorite Christmas memories.
For Noem, Christmas growing usually involved a scavenger hunt to find a family present.
Those memories continue even this year when Noem decorated the family Christmas tree with her sick grandchild Miss Addie.
Christmas at the Capitol wraps up Thursday, December 26th at the State Capitol in Pierre.
