PIERRE, S.D.(Press Release) – On Friday, Governor Kristi Noem ordered that flags be flown at half-staff statewide on Monday, May 30, 2022, in honor of Memorial Day.
“This Memorial Day, we are reminded of our bravest South Dakotans — 3,073 service members killed in action since World War I,” said Governor Noem. “I hope you will take this Memorial Day to reflect on those we have lost. Use this time to also talk about their lives outside of service. Speak loudly and proudly about our bravest South Dakotans.”
Flags are to be flown half-staff from sunrise until noon only, then raised briskly to the top of the staff until sunset, in honor of the nation’s fallen heroes.
