Governor Rhoden announce new education initiative Friday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO)- South Dakota is opting in to a new education initiative that’s part of President Trump’s so=called “Big Beautiful Bill.”

The bill includes a provision that allows taxpayers to receive a tax credit for donations they make to accredited public and private schools.

Governor Larry Rhoden used St. Joseph’s Academy in Sioux Falls as a backdrop to announce South Dakota wants to opt into the Partners in Education Scholarship program.

Education Secretary Joe Graves admits that will mean more competition for public schools…which he believes is good.

Money can also be donated to the public school of your choice under the provision.
