PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- The passage of a House Bill by this year’s legislature is generating a lot of excitement at the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre. Governor Kristi Noem signed H-B 1047 last week which immediately makes eight-point-eight million dollars in general fund revenue available for a major renovation of the Center. It also allows for three-point-three million dollars of other fund expenditure authority. State Historical Society Director Dr. Ben Jones says they appreciate the support.
The bill has an emergency clause which allows work that started last year with design to move forward quickly.
Jones says it’s too early to get to specific with project timelines, especially as supply chain issues and material availability remain challenges.
As a part of the work being done, portions of the Cultural Heritage Center will be closed to the public during the work.
