PIERRE, S.D.(WNAX)- A grant application for a major railroad improvement project is in the works.
South Dakota Transportation Department Secretary Joel Jundt told the Railroad Board this week the application for the RCR & E project has been submitted.
The project would replace and upgrade the rail line from Ft Pierre to the Black Hills.
Jundt also told the board that the infrastructure plan passed by the US Senate has funding for other rail projects.
Jundt says there may also be money available through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Program.
That infrastructure bill has yet to be debated in the US House.
