Grass fire reported north of Henry

HENRY, S.D. (KWAT)–Three area fire departments were busy overnight fighting a grass fire five miles north of Henry.

The fire call came in around 12:30 Monday morning.

Henry Fire Department Chief Dave Fuller says it appears the fire started from a burn pit, and was fueled by very strong winds. He says they had their hands full as they attacked the fire from all four sides.

The fire burned an estimated 200 acres of mainly CRP land.

Fuller says one structure, a cattle barn, sustained minor damage as the flames spread into the rafters in one corner of the barn.

Fire departments from Garden City and Wallace provided mutual aid, and a Watertown Fire Rescue ambulance was sent out as well.

No injuries were reported.

Fuller says fire crews cleared the scene around 4am.
