WATERTOWN, S.D.(KWAT)- A historic day for Codington County government Monday.
The county held a ceremonial groundbreaking on a new 108-bed jail that’ll be built on Highway 212 on Watertown’s western edge.
There were failed bond referendums to fund a new jail in 2014 and 2017, but a $29.6 million question was approved by voters last November.
Sheriff Brad Howell.
County Commissioner Lee Gabel has been working on getting approval for a new jail since 2015.
Completion is expected by mid 2027.
