PIERRE, S.D. (DRG News) – The Hughes County State’s Attorney is resigning at the end of this month (Oct. 30, 2020).
Roxanne Hammond gave her official resignation– as well as her recommendation for her replacement– to the Hughes County Commission during Monday’s meeting.
If the commission appoints LaMie (la-me), Hammond says there will be a smooth transition.
Hammond is leaving to become a Deputy State’s Attorney in Pennington County.
Hammond says the office handles around 1,000 cases each year.
The Hughes County Commission discussed moving forward in replacing Hammond during an executive session for personnel at the end of the meeting. Hammond was appointed State’s Attorney in 2018 replacing Wendy Kloeppner. Her term is up this year and was running unopposed for another four-year term.
